Oh PJ.... I really don't know what to say. One would think he would try his best to obey the law and stay out of trouble after the 2nd run-in with the law...3 strikes you're out, buddy. All that talent is now in jeopardy for making stupid decisions. I guess after the charges were dropped and he wasn't suspended that he thought he was invincible. Suspended indefinitely now after speeding and careless and reckless driving over the weekend. He was driving 93 in a 65mph zone. CBS Sports Article

I know college kids do stupid things - males especially. But this goes beyond stupid. This gets into self-destructive territory.
If he was so determined to not play for Carolina this year, why didn't he just enter the draft like everybody else? Is this some sort of weird cry for help?

I am wondering where the leadership is that should be in his life. I know you can't watch the kid 24x7, but I agree with you Ken. This is self destruction. Yes a speeding ticket this time...but it's the 3rd time he's had trouble in a very short few months. Another question would be where did he get this vehicle from? Did it come from "Fats" as well or did he borrow it from someone else?

The weird thing to me about stuff like this (and, no, I don't care where the kid goes to school) is that the behavior gets worse as these guys get older and closer to hitting the pro jackpot - where one would think maturity would be setting in, it's petulance and the sense of entitlement and not giving a flying crap that gets them. What the hell is an NBA GM going to think of this guy now?

I know if I were a GM, I would steer clear. It seems to me that PJ's support system has either abandoned him, or he just simply thinks he can get away with anything because he beat a couple of misdemeanor charges. I'd hate to hear in 3-5 years about PJ like we did Aaron Hernandez. Do I think it'll escalate to that level? I certainly hope not, but right now it appears he's on a path of self destruction...and he doesn't care because he's "the man" at UNC.

Yet another sign of the tail wagging the dog - and kudos, by the way, to Roy Williams on the indefinite suspension. I was very mildly in agreement with some of the nuts over to the RAL as far as what took so long for him to say anything on the previous issue (drugs/gun/etc.), but I do also understand letting things run their course and go thru the legal system and, if that was Hairston's first "real" brush with the law (forget the rental car and relationship with the felon issues, not 'illegal', but certainly on the NCAA's radar), I have no problem with the deferred prosecution result (that's how I remember it being when I was a Probation/Parole Officer).
The bigger issue to me is just this: He didn't learn his lesson after the first speeding ticket (in the rented Camaro under the felon's girlfriend's name), but he damn sure didn't learn his lesson after the gun/drug thing because he went 90+ in a 65, and got Careless and Reckless thrown on top for good measure. Remember the old adage: except for winning something big, you generally don't want to see athletes make the front page of the paper; this kid acting like a Grade-A ass is getting UNC in the papers (once again) for all the wrong reasons. Coach Williams loves that place, I believe he has integrity, and if your acting like an ass is going to hurt his program and his school, I gotta believe he's kicking your ass to the curb. Willing to bet Hairston's got one more chance with Roy - period. And, if he don't straighten himself up REAL damn quick, wouldn't be a bit surprised if he is kicked off the team and his scholarship pulled. He's much more of a menace than Marvin Austin, Greg Little, or Michael McAdoo ever thought about being, because he's got three moving violations and gun & drug charges in about three months, all of which are more "in public" than parking tickets (which, admittedly, are easy to come by in Chapel Hill, that place is a f'n zoo to try and park in) or sham courses or tutors writing papers. Kid's turning into a head case real quick.

kudos, by the way, to Roy Williams on the indefinite suspension FWIW it was actually Bubba who wanted PJ suspended the moment he was arrested for the marijuana charges. Roy, however, fought for PJ and kept him from getting suspended the first time around. After his speeding ticket though Roy's hand was forced and he had to suspend him.
