I just want to give my opinion on Marshall as a point guard. As far as passing goes, he's the best. I don't see him as a great point guard because he doesn't shoot very well , he doesn't have that drive and pull up shot, and he not good on defense. I think he's just not born with speed and quickness. I think that in order for any team to win it all they have to have scoring from every position. As for Bullock he's getting better but he's basically a freshman, because of last years injuries. Just throwing this out for discussion.

I don't think you need scoring from every position as much as you need the threat of scoring from every position. If Marshall hadn't already shown he could hit the three when left unguarded or drive the lane I'd agree with you. I think he scores enough.
His defense? That may be a weakness, especially in the NBA. But as long as he can compensate for his speed by funneling faster opponents to his help inside (Henson and Zeller) I think he's OK at the college level.
I'm not sure he would be nearly as effective either on offense or defense if he played at Duke because his skill set wouldn't be as complementary as it is with the Heels' schemes.

I think Marshall has shown he can score when he needs to. His jump shot is actually not bad, I just think he needs to pull the trigger a little more when the defense backs off and "dares" him to shoot. That could open up the paint even more for Z and Henson. Defense is probably his weak point, but that can always improve. Having said that, he is, hands down, the best true point guard in the nation.

How many point guards are strong defenders? It would seem that most coaches prefer to keep their point guards out of foul trouble so that they can continue to run the floor on offense. Just my opinion.

I think some point guards are very good defenders (Raymond Felton comes to mind), but oldtimer's point about coaches wanting to keep their guys out of trouble is valid in a lot of situations. It's particularly valid in Marshall's case, given that Roy has no other real options. That's not to say that Marshall would be a strong defender even if Roy unleashed him. He does lack real quickness, but I think he could be more aggressive and do a better job in certain situations if he weren't so vital to UNC's success.

Marshall is quicker than he looks. I think his court vision and passing skills will eventually make him a solid NBAer.

Butter is a better defensive player than what he shows...i believe that Roy explicitly demands that he not get in foul trouble by playing lax D. He is definitely not fast up and down..but he is quicker than he gets credit for. He is able to get by folks and get to the rim.

I think the last 6 games, KM has shown that he can shoot and score the basketball. Up to this point, it hasn't been required of him and he has deferred to his teammates. As more and more teams have chose to double team UNC's interior, Marshall has had to make them pay. He's done a pretty good job of it. If Stilman White has to play major minutes due to Marshall's injury, he will need to be enough of a threat to keep defenses honest.

On the plus side, Marshall has 1 turnover every 12 minutes of play. Strickland was 1 in 18 before he went down. Combined, Watts and White have averaged a turnover every 32 minutes of playing time.
Carolina didn't do too badly while Marshall was hiding his offensive skills under a bushel, as it were, so I'm not ready to write the Heels off yet.

As I get further removed from the emotional cloud of Sunday's post game, I become more confident that UNC can overcome it if Marshall has to sit out. They may have to get creative, but this is the time for Roy to show off his coaching chops.
