March 3rd, 2012, the ACC regular season championship may be on the line. Duke currently holds a 1/2 game lead of the Tarheels. Maryland travels to the Dean Dome tonight (2/29/12). If UNC wins, it will be the second year in a row that Duke and UNC have battled it out for the regular season title. Last year, UNC prevailed and were the regular season champs. Will they do it again this year, or will the Blue Devils take the crown? Attachments:

UMD trying to make a little come back on UNC right now...However, just like that - UNC back up by 10.

UNC handily defeated UMD - now the showdown is on.
Bring it on, Wussy Blues! It won't take a last second shot to beat you this time!

Once again, there is more than just bragging rights on the line in Saturday's Duke/Carolina matchup. There's first place in the ACC Regular Season outright (I know there is no "Regular Season Champ", theres the seeding for the ACCT, and possibly a #1 seed for the NCAA's. Right now I see Carolina as a 2-seed in the NCAA's. As a Heels fan, I hope Carolina brings the effort and intensity that was missing from last night's game against Maryland. Go Heels! Should be a heck of a game.

It's one thing to have conference bragging rights, but the fact is these two schools have dominated in the NCAA tournament as well. When the best a critic of either of these schools can come up with for smack talk is how many times have they failed to get past the Sweet Sixteen, you know they are consistently outstanding.
In the years since John Wooden stepped down at UCLA, both Carolina and Duke have made it to the Final Four 12 times each, winning four NT's each. The most appearances that the top TWO teams from any other conference have made is 11 (Michigan State 7/ Michigan 4 for the Big Ten and Kentucky 7 and Florida 4 for the SEC).
On the biggest stage, these two have been the biggest players for a long time.

i think Carolina takes this one, the last one was a fluke imo, Zeller misses 2 FT`s, tips the ball in dukes basket and he shouldnt have been on Rivers in the first place.
i believe Carolina gets a lead and holds it this time, Heels by 5

Every pundit and expert predicted Carolina would beat Duke the first time; me being the pessimist that I am, wasn't so sure. I think tomorrow's game will be harder because it's in Cameron, and Carolina has had a tough time on the road this year. On paper, Carolina is the more talented team, but that doesn't seem to matter in this rivalry. ESPN showed "the anatomy of the meltdown" yesterday, and Carolina made SO many mistakes in the last two minutes. While it's been well documented that Curry DID travel and Plumlee DID push Zeller, Carolina could have and should have won the game. I'm afraid if Duke comes out of the gate shooting and making 3's we're screwed.

Ken, it's good to see you here! Your points illustrate why this rivalry is so special. Two HOF coaches, two storied programs, the proximity of the schools, it just doesn't get any better. I sure hope the Heels get their revenge tomorrow. In just 24 hours it will all be over. Go Heels!

I really don't have a dog in the fight tomorrow night, but I think it will be Duke by 2. Either way, it's going to be one hell of a game.

Wow, a guy creates his own pack forum and then comes to post negatives for NC on the one discussing the NC/Dook game. I guess the pack forum is not working out as well as originally thought. The format for this one is very nice. Good job Tizu!!!

Heels up 24 at the half and looking good. It will be a dog fight in 2nd half but so far so good. NC has done a good job keeping dook from 3s and kept Rivers away from any rythm. Continuing that will be the key to the 2nd half. Barnes has played like the Caw Caw he is!!! Go Tarheels. Avenge that loss and take #1!
TBK and crew over at lame azzed WRAL acting like we should be blowing them out. What a joke those staties are! Trying to jinx my Tarheels!

That they did. They mounted that comeback to get back within 11 late in the 2nd, but I knew there was no way they were coming back in this one. Congrats heelz1 on the win.

TIZU, no lead is safe when the opponent is Duke. I thought they were staging another heartbreaking come-back in the second half. Thanks for your good sportsmanship. Proud of the Heels. They played a great game.

Duke made a good effort tonight, but UNC got off to a great start, and managed to hold on. Duke seemed to cede the inside the whole first half; that was the difference, along with us balancing the scoring between Zeller, Henson, Barnes, and Bullock. And of course with Marshall as the emcee!

And despite what Bilas and Vitale were saying, most of them were called correctly.
