Based on the sanctions announced today, I have a hard time understanding what took them so long. All in all, I don't think this will have any significant or long-standing impact on Carolina's football program.
Is this about what you expected, or are the sanctions milder or harsher than than you thought?

It's about what I expected. I figured they would throw a few extra things on top of what UNC had already self-imposed. I hate it for any program to go through that, even if it is Carolina. Truth be told, there's proabably violations in almost every big program. The difference is who has been caught and who hasn't been caught yet.

For the amount and variety of violations, I would've expected about what was announced today. I thought UNC's suggested self-imposed sanctions were a bit light (and convenient) - I mean, they don't let the defendant choose his punishment in court (with the exception of the death row inmate).
Either way, I'm good. Has nothing to do with me or State. I posted in a RAL thread earlier that I only hope all schools learn this lesson: wins and titles aren't worth breaking the rules, only to have to give back the wins and titles years later, along with your good name.
UNC will come out of this A-OK, methinks.

These sanctions are a little stronger than those imposed on Ohio State, which seems about right to me. But if I were Miami, I believe I'd be getting very worried. It could be a year before we find out what they get, and given their past history I wouldn't be surprised to see a second year of postseason ban and as much as a 21 scholarship reduction.
If that's all they get, they'll be breathing a sigh of relief in South Florida, IMO.

It is not good but all state fans thought we would get much tougher sanctions so they are disapointed. i will still get my season tickets....we will beat the pack this year and then have to act like it is our superbowl like the pack does every year!!! ROFL!!!! Life goes on!

Sorry Heelz1, but the WolfPack fans are not disappointed with the decision. It is about what most of us expected and is appropriate. I think the hold up was the John Blake issue since he was uncooperative, as was the tutor.
The State/UNC game is not our Super Bowl. It is just gratifying to watch the frustration on the faces of the WalMart UNC fans when the WolfPack comes out the winner each year for 5 years in a row. I am sure that UNC will win the football game sometime in the future. That is the reason the games are played on the field and not on the forums.

I don't like the 15 scholarships, that's going to hurt Carolina more than anything else. However, it was a just punishment. I don't like the fact that some people come on this site, which is supposed to be about discussion of athletics and above comment and insults. Not just sassie, but oldtimer, do you find it necessary to use the term Walmart fans when referring to UNC fans? Don't complain about sassie when you're doing the same.

It seems to be a just punishment, I personally would have included no TV for year.
I'm just glad it is over and done with and we can start the Larry Fedora era. I am excited about his coaching style and am looking foward to the games.
