www.wralsportsfan.com/ap-source-panthers-will-release-wr-smith-thursday/13475593/Can't even imagine what the third of the three will be. Wow. Steve Smith gone. I can't think of the Panthers without thinking of Smitty; he certainly appeared to adopt the team, the city, the state, and the fans as his own and it appeared to me, anyway, that he truly did love the area. Could he be mouthy and showy? Hell yes. Could he act like a pain in the ass? Probably. Was he wrong for punching out ol' whats-his-name in Training Camp a few years ago? Yes. Would you take a guy with his focus, his intensity, and his work ethic in a skinny freakin' second? Yes you would. No idea what the future holds, obviously, and there is no way around this: he is going on 35 and has had injury issues recently. But there is no way to dispute that this man brought fire and leadership to this team for years, and at many times when it was SORELY needed. I hate to see this, I understand the NFL is a business and nothing lasts forever, but this more than kinda sucks. Best of luck, Steve. Thank you for everything you did for the Panthers over the years, there's no way in hell you'll ever be forgotten.

Currently, the Panthers do not have a wide receiver on their roster who has caught a pass in an NFL game.
That is scary. LaFell to Vikings, Tedd Ginn Jr. still a Free Agent, Smitty to Baltimore. There is no one else.
Scary.

This new GM Gettelman better have a plan, or we'll be screaming for Marty Hurney by Game 2. Haven't been able to follow very closely, obviously Steve Smith was big news. LaFell gone? Ginn not yet re-signed?
Holy chit, I got it: the Panthers are bringing in Barry Switzer to be the O-Coordinator and the Panthers are gonna go to the Wishbone next season.

Word is, the past two days the Panthers have met with Jericho Cotchery, an NC State product if I'm not mistaken and drafted by the Jets. He's got decent numbers, but nothing outstanding. Still better than what they have now....which is nothing.

Still better than what they have now....which is nothing. He was Philip Rivers' main target for 3 years at State, very good receiver, decent speed, great hands, big man that can go across the middle. Very dependable on an off the field, he's been with the Steelers most recently if I'm not mistaken. Definitely would help.

Damn. ESPN reporting right this second that Cam Newton is having surgery to repair his left ankle injured in the playoff loss to the 49ers, he will be down 4 months. I just had to say it .....

Yep, I saw that yesterday. He's out until July. No off-season.
Gonna be a rough start to the season most likely.

Yeah....I just don't know about their moves right now. I know they gotta move some folks for cap reasons...but Cam cannot throw it to himself.

Can't throw it to nobody until July.
Another quiet five years of fall Sundays in the old Wolf house, I guess.
