I picked up tickets to this game, it should be a good one. If Duke's defense keeps handling their business, this game could possibly get ugly. They have a good offense, fairly high powered and fast paced. I really don't know how the game will go. It all depends on which teams show up on Saturday. I have a bad feeling about it simply because State just lost to UNC, so they're going to be out for a win, for sure.
That being said, in the end I think Duke pulls it out and wins by a TD.

As I said on the WRAL site, I think Duke is the better team right now, though not by much. But I'm picking State to upset the Devils, just because they are now officially desperate.
If State comes out flat on Saturday, their season is over, because that means they will have quit on themselves and each other. If that happens, Doeren is in trouble. As long as the Pack continues to play hard, he's OK. After all, if your fans have been complaining about how far your predecessor's recruiting had slipped, how can they blame you for not winning with mediocre players?
Triangle football is at its most fun when all three teams are competitive. It's been too long since we have seen that. I don't expect national championships, or even conference championships. But a division championship every so often would be nice.

This season, right here, right now, today Duke is a better team, playing better, and - yes - being coached better than State. Duke's at home. Duke's looking to - yes - improve their bowl position. Duke by 10.

Stupid me - I completely overlooked the possibility that State would throw more TD passes to Duke than to themselves.

Congrats to Duke, total team performance today. Duke is more multi-dimensional than they've been in years. Good job today.

Great atmosphere Saturday in Wallace Wade. I was there with my 3 sons, my wife, my in laws and my parents. It was great to see Duke jump ahead early....then lose the lead...then battle right back after a 100 yard kick off return for a touchdown. That was a thing of beauty. Those 2 Pick sixes 30 seconds apart were flukes...but boy was it awesome to see in person. Good game. For the life of me, I could not figure out what the hell State was doing. They went away from running between the tackles...which was KILLING Duke. They were running all over them. Thornton was going to have an even bigger night if they would have kept it up...but I digress.
Glad for the win. Duke is 7-2. Wow...

Ordinarily I wouldn't say what I'm about to say because I don't want to detract from an opponent's effort, etc., but I gotta get this out:
The fake punt call from our own 30 or so in the first half against UNC, going for it on 4th down (again fairly deep in our own end) against Duke, then calling timeout before a KICKOFF against Duke have me, for the first time, questioning this coaching staff, particularly Head Coach Doeren. The 2 INT runbacks late by Duke have nothing to do with coaching and everything to do with poor decision-making by Mitchell and Thomas.
It's the poor decision-making by our coach that has me the most puzzled.

I understand where you're coming from. I was at the game and I was perplexed as to why they called the timeout before the Kickoff, then I realized it was because they only had 10 players on the field. I totally agree with you on the 4th down deep in their own territory. I was even questioning why the hell are they doing that!? For me, the thing I couldn't understand the most was why go away from the run? They were having a ton of success with running the ball and they just stopped running completely. There were a few things on the Duke side that had me scratching my head as well. When Duke came back and went up by 4, they came out on their next offensive series and were running a hurry up offense. With over 3 minutes to play in State's territory. Why in the world would you not use as much clock as possible in that situation? I was baffled, but I think Duke really wanted to put the nail in the coffin with their offense due to the long run after the catch for a TD from State the play before the run-back. I felt like they started playing scared.
The interceptions...there's no excuse for that. While I loved it and Wallace Wade was ROCKING during those, the decision making was very poor. I see know that Doeren has gone away from the "2 QB system" and is sticking with Braxton in the next game...in his words "It is Brandon's game". We'll see.

Jeez, man. At this point, I just want to see something good from State on the football field. Down 4, 3 1/2 to play; I appreciate Brandon Mitchell trying to make a play, I really do, but how in the hell could he possibly have thought he would get a pass over a DB closing in on him from the front while a DT is laying on his legs?
Friggin' smarten up, already!!!
