I admit I had higher expectations for this year's Wolfpack than the pundits. My thinking was based on two factors. I looked for the freshmen to make a significant impact, with Anya being the true center State hasn't really had for a while. I also thought that having ten scholarship players available to practice (with Trevor Lacey sitting out a transfer year) would help preparation. Last year, they could barely hold a five on five scrimmage.
Now Anya resembles the Goodyear blimp and Vandenberg is already down with an injury. With only seven healthy players, three of them frosh, State's returning players are going to have to contribute 30+ minutes a game. Some nights, that's going to take a toll - especially against relatively deep teams like Duke, Syracuse and Carolina. Even Wake and BC could leave their tongues dragging.
Where do you all see the Pack finishing in the ACC this season?

Tough call for me, Ken. Gottfried is a pretty decent coach and has brought in some talent. I think there may be some surprise wins, but overall, you're right - the injuries and playing so many Freshmen can be cause for concern. I don't think they're going to be as bad as people think, I'll pick them to finish 6th.

Very easy for me to say, but I can see anywhere from about 7th to 12th. I don't they'll bring up the rear, but unless the planets truly line up I don't see Top 4 either, and by a substantial margin. This year is going to be about two things for State, to me as a fan:
1) Individual and team improvement from last year's returning players into and thru this season, and improvement throughout this season from the freshmen, and
2) Selfishly hoping that T.J. Warren comes back for next season, along with everybody else, to see what kind of run they can put together with a full season under the collective belt. In no way am I writing off this season, it's just that I see this as a total reload this year.

Anya's got moves, instincts, smarts, and about 50 extra lbs. The program said he's 6'9" and 325. I would imagine at his age he may get to about 6'10" or so, maybe 7' if he has one more growth spurt in him. To me, with his frame and body type, he should be 260-270. He can do it, if he's willing to work.

Whatever Richard Howell did, Anya should do.
