"Zero Dark Thursday" was the theme for the night. This actually turned out to be a nail biter, which was very surprising to me (and I'm sure a lot of others). Duke Johnson (Miami running back) and Phillip Dorsett (Receiver) both went out of the game with injuries early on. Stephen Morris threw FOUR interceptions. It wasn't a good night offensively for Miami - at all!
UNC made some mistakes too...they just still couldn't really stop the run. Before Johnson went out, he had some huge runs...then the backup Dallas Crawford came in and got the job done on some big runs...especially late in the game. Miami scored with 16 seconds left in the 4th. UNC had a great chance to punch it in with 3 seconds to go....the ball was in the receiver's hands...Miami just made the play and the game ended.
Tough Break, mistakes will kill you...somehow Miami stays undefeated and UNC is 1-5 and 0-3 in ACC play.
Here's to a speedy recovery for the players...hate to see great players (or any player) get injured.

Hell, all credit in the world to UNC - a whisker from going 80 yards in 16 secs.

Agree, Ken - however, in the interest of objectivity, UNC still had to make the plays and if the kid holds on to that last pass it wouldn't have been a Miami loss, it would've been a UNC win.

Great game. Even though it wasn't a sellout, the crowd was legit. I was REALLY bummed about Duke Johnson and Dorsett going down early but I was impressed with what Dallas Crawford did. The kid stepped up and ran hard (I can still hear the hit when he trucked the UNC defender on 3rd and 2 on the final drive). Heading into the 4th quarter though I really thought it was UNC's night. I realize Miami's QB isn't great but he was missing some WIDE OPEN receivers and making dumb decisions all around (the INT he threw running to the side line, in particular). The 'Not Top 10' play of the game though had to be when he threw an INT off his lineman's helmet.
UNC somehow let it slip away though. Sure their defense had their problems on the last drive, but what happened to the offense in the fourth quarter? The first half play calling was great - inside, outside, screen pass, deep ball, etc. - they kept the defense guessing. The offense in the fourth quarter was completely different. I'm not real sure what happened but they simply didn't have an athlete capable of covering Ebron, can't tell you why they went away from him. TJ Logan was also impressive. He was a big time recruit coming out of high school and he showed some flashes of it Thursday.
The biggest question mark, by far, was the 3rd and less than 1 sequence of events. I was at a loss of words when I watched it unfold and I still can't tell you what Fedora was thinking. You ran 2 straight running plays with Marquise in (last play was Quise scrambling for 4 yards) and then you insert Renner on 3rd and less than 1? WHAT? And then to add, you don't call a time out and let the play clock run out? Pathetic. Fedora should've had his hand in the refs back pocket following him around in a time like this. Unbelievable. You could tell the crowd and team instantly deflated when Renner was later sacked. HUGE swing of momentum.
Anyways, that was the definition of heartbreak. Ebron burst into tears as he headed up into the tunnel and as I walked by his family on the way out they were all teary eyed as well. It'll be interesting to see how they respond to this.
