Short, sweet, and to the point:
Nothing will change or improve until each and every player becomes mature enough to accept full responsibility for their share of gameplan preparation and study, and then transfers that into the games. Quit the BS trash-talking that draws personal foul penalties, quit staring down receivers like they're the beautiful woman that just walked into the crowded bar, and play like you give a damn.
More of the same old same old and, no, I do not put any of that on the coaches.

I agree with you, Wolf, and that goes double for the Heels. I thought the Pack would roll Wake. I still think State will have a good season and make a bowl. I think the Wake game, although frustrating, will serve as a wake up call. Doeren will get them back on track.

My main frustration as a State fan is watching these kids, football and basketball, over the years and for whatever idiotic reason thinking "State" or "NC State" on the jersey meant they could play half-ass and get anything done. Kentucky can't do that in basketball, Alabama can't do that in football, but even more to the point I don't think you see a whole hell of a lot of taunting personal foul penalties against Alabama like Byrd drew for State on Saturday. Giving yards away p's me off, and I'm not even a coach. Just stupid.
Miami did it way back when, but they had the talent to give you 15 yards, then make you lose 16 the next play. State's nowhere near that good (and, no, I don't want 'em acting like the old Miami teams - acting like THIS YEAR'S Miami would be OK, though).

Things definitely got ugly in Winston, that's for sure.
Offensively I don't know where to start. Our OL was absolutely horrid. We couldn't open any holes and couldn't provide much protection for Pete either. I can see why offensive line targets are such a big priority for our staff right now. Pete was the same old Pete, staring down his first receiver and taking off or freezing when he wasn't open. You could definitely tell we were hurting injury wise with the losses to three big playmakers in Rashard, MVS, and Dayes. Wake Forest simply blew up our screens and quick passes and challenged us to beat them over the top. We couldn't and we paid for it. That said, Wake Forest came out with a great game plan and executed it.
Defensively, you could tell our staff was caught off guard by the wide splits. It forced our DL to spread out and really opened up the middle of the field for them. There were a few plays where they ran an empty set and we had NOBODY in the middle of the field. They exposed us and we looked BAD. We simply had no idea what to do about it and we never made adjustments. Regarding Campanero, last year we put Dontae Johnson on him and held him to only 5 catches. For some damn reason we decided to run zone against him this year and he topped that number in the first half alone (ended up with 12 catches, 153 yards and 2 TDs). We were also missing leadership on the field after Byrd went down and we replaced him with a walk on. Pretty sure that factored into that blown coverage right before the end of the first half. Bottom line, it was just poor game prep and execution by our defensive staff, period.
Penalty wise, we made some incredibly dumb mistakes. The roughing the kicker penalty turned 3 points into 7. Also, even though I strongly disagree with the taunting penalty called on Byrd, you can't put yourself in the position to let the referee's make that call. And then there's the dreaded formation penalties. We're in week six of our season, you'd think we would at least be able to line up in the right formation. I'm hoping for a good showing against Syracuse this weekend but I'm concerned now that Wake has laid out the blueprints of how to whip us.

I know I don't know where we got this sense of entitlement that allows us to believe we can overlook certain teams. Hopefully they'll wake up and realize they're not even in a position to overlook an FCS team like Richmond, much less a conference opponent. But I digress...I thought the Heels actually looked somewhat improved Saturday. If it wasn't for a few missed plays (deep ball to Switzer, Switzers fumble on the PR) they could have really made it a game. And from what I've seen so far, I'd be surprised if Marquise didn't get significant playing time at QB. He made some good passes and held his own against a stout defense.

Marquise actually did look pretty good and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they go to him at QB. In fact, I think it'd probably be a good decision to do so.
