I just saw a report on Fan Sided Daily that Clowney has injured his shoulder and may miss the opener against Carolina. It's not definite, but Spurrier said if Clowney misses much more camp/practice, he may be held out. SC is still a formidable team with a ton of talent, but I like Carolina's chances a lot better with Clowney on the sidelines than on the field. What are your thoughts?

Dude's a beast, pure and simple. I feel so sorry for the Michigan tailback every time I see that clip. Don't follow UNC or USC very closely, obviously it helps UNC if Clowney doesn't go, don't have any idea if it becomes "Advantage UNC". Where's the game, Chapel Hill or Columbia?

The game is in Columbia. It is likely that Clowney will NOT play in the opener due to injury. It should be a good game, but I'm giving the game to the Gamecocks. I don't see UNC being able to hang with them for very long. SC's defense isn't as stellar as it should be, especially without Clowney. They lost ALL of their linebackers last year, so all 3 are freshmen. I'm sure UNC will try to pound the ball up the middle to test the interior of SC's defense.
If Clowney does play, he's going to require a double team, and even that may not be enough so that's going to leave someone unblocked somewhere and UNC will have to rely on the skill of their running backs to make something happen.

Last report I heard was that he's already back at practice. You guys should know by now not to take what Spurrier says in the preseason too seriously. He was pulling the media's chain, which he loves almost as much as coaching.
With or without Clowney, USC will be a handful for the Heels. But one of the reasons for going to a spread offense is precisely to compensate for an opponent's superior talent on defense. You're not just going to line up against these guys and whip them physically. But UNC's biggest concern right now will be whether they can stop USC's offense.

Yep, I just saw where Clowney is healthy now and is expected to play against the Heels.

He must have the same Shaman that healed Kenny Smith.

Clowney will definitely play in the opener but I don't know if he'll be as effective as everyone thinks. Like Ken said, the spread offenses are made to make up for these types of talent deficiencies and Hurst isn't exactly a pushover himself. I think all the hype over Clowney does have the OL at UNC a little psyched out though. A good friend of mine had a couple OL friends over one night and I was told specifically not to bring up anything Clowney related because they didn't want him getting in their heads more than he already is. Just seemed kind of odd to me, at least.
