So ..... according to articles I read at the RAL and in the N&O this weekend, and we did know this since before the season started, Kevin Harvick is leaving RCR after this season and moving to Hendrick Light, aka "Stewart-Haas" Racing. As I called before the "full" announcement was made (not that I needed a crystal ball or anything), he will effectively be replacing Ryan Newman, his car number will be 4, and he'll take the Budweiser sponsorship with him.
In the N&O piece, Harvick indicated he just felt it was time he moved on from RCR, and that it was hard to resist going to such a fine organization as HL/SHR, what with Hendrick support and whatnot. Don't think this was "explicitly" mentioned, but the intimation was that Harvick feels this move is necessary in order to give himself the best chance to "get over the hump" and win a championship.
After the race at New Hampshire yesterday (7/14/13), Harvick is 4th in points (only one point behind Carl Edwards for 3rd) with two race wins already this season. Stewart is 13th with one win, lame duck Newman is 19th with no wins, and pinup girl is 27th (do I really need to add "with no wins"?).
Hard to argue with that kind of logic.
IMO, The Don threw more money at Harvick than Childress could afford, it's as simple as that.
