Pack - Heels IV today at 3
Looking for another tense game between (in my opinion) two great teams. I would assume since they're the higher seed, UNC will play as the home team? I just hope for a good game, hoping State doesn't have the "stagefright" I've been hearing so much about, something tells me the Pack will be fine. Best of luck to all involved.
Go Pack

Go Pack Other posts have suggested that only 8 teams were technically "seeded". That means five teams in Omaha are unseeded, so how can they use seeds to determine who the "home" team is? There's a lot I don't understand about how this tournament works.

As far as the seeding issue goes, here is my best guess from watching the games:
Going in to the tournament, there were 16 "regional" sites, with only 8 given a seed. The other 8 host schools were technically unseeded but, because of how the brackets were set up going from the 'Regional' stage to the 'Super Regional' stage it was obvious what the 9-16 seeds "would have been". As UNC was given the #1 national seed, I can only presume South Carolina (as the regional site host in Columbia) was the 'defacto' 16 seed, because Columbia winner was bracketed to play the Chapel Hill winner in the Super Regional round. By extension, I can only assume NCSU was the 'defacto' 9 seed, as the Eugene, Oregon winner was bracketed to face the Raleigh winner. Since Rice, the 2 seed in the Eugene Regional won the whole regional in Eugene, they were slated to take on the Raleigh winner. Since that winner was the host school NCSU (the '1' in Raleigh), NCSU got to host the Super Regional, but it didn't change the fact that NCSU was still the national 9 and, if they made it past Rice, they were going to play the Chapel Hill Super Regional winner in the opening round in Omaha, hence State/UNC in the first round.
The only tjing different from the NCAA basketball tourney is that not all the baseball teams have seed numbers.

Whatever the methodology, all three remaining national seeds are playing in the losers' brackets. It would be cool if State and Carolina met again this Saturday.

Well, Carolina is doing its part to create a Heel Wolfpack rematch. Let's hope it happens on Friday and not Thursday. But either way, I expect Rodon on the mound for State.

Tough break for State. I expected LSU to eliminate UNC. Kind of surprised about that one as they are my pick to win it all.

Pack - Heels, one more time.
I'm expecting a tense, high-pressure, largely well-played game but a mistake at the wrong time could tip it.
State needs to play patiently but aggressively, too many missed opportunities against UCLA.

"Too many missed opportunities against UCLA" pretty much describes UCLA's season. On paper, they stink, but somehow their opponents keep missing opportunities to beat them. At some point, you have to start giving credit to the Bruins. There was an interesting stat on the screen the other night. UCLA leads the country in the number of games they have won despite scoring two runs or fewer. Small ball at its best.

Wow, I watched that game last night....While Rodon did okay, he got shown up...big time by Hobbs Johnson. Holy cow. Pretty impressive every single pitch was a fastball.
Good luck moving forward!

I'm curious. Is anybody planning to watch now that the ACC has been knocked out?

Nope. I'm not interested unless a team I have interest in is playing in it. I couldn't care less about UCLA or Miss. State. Now that most major sports have NOTHING going on right now (with the exception of the NBA draft coming up), there's really nothing worth watching sports wise right now.

Agree with Ken about UCLA - all they do is win. Congratulations to them.
As far as State-UNC, once again all credit goes to UNC. I read in last Sunday's paper where Fox said he wasn't going to change his lineup to include more righty bats just to try and "counter" Rodon. In other words, he was sticking with his guns. Well, State got 'em pretty good that first game, CG by Rodon, etc. Now, fast forward to Thursday night's elimination game. For the first time EVER, Rodon goes on 3 days' rest. Why wouldn't Avent stick by HIS guns? Fox even said during the in-game interview he expected Rodon to start. Oh well. Other than racing and MLB, summer break from sports.

Confused me too, Marty. Don't know why Rodon started, at best I saw him pitching the END of the game, not the beginning. Either way, Congrats to UCLA! What a winning tradition that school has.
And yes, racing for me...don't care for MLB until deep in the playoffs. Regular season to me is a waste of time.

Congratulations to UCLA for a virtuoso performance at the CWS. Five games against the best teams in the country and they gave up a TOTAL of four runs. That brought me back to another great pitching performance by an LA team. My Dodgers (who I still loved despite having been abandoned by them a few years earlier when they left Brooklyn) swept the Yankees in four, also allowing 3 runs, if my memory serves me correctly.
I was surprised to read somewhere this was UCLA's first CWS title. Seems they are in Omaha almost every year. It is also the school's 109th national championship. Pretty impressive.
Edit: When you get as old as I am, your memory is usually the second thing to go. The Dodgers actually gave up four runs. Their rotation of Koufax, Drysdale and Podres has to rank among the all-time best.
