The soon-to-be 14-team Atlantic Coast Conference announced a 12-year football schedule Tuesday that outlines cross-divisional opponents for each school, separate of their primary rivals.
As part of the ACC expansion that welcomes Louisville, Pittsburgh and Syracuse into the conference, each school will play eight conference games per year, six of which will be within their respective division. In addition, each school will play two games against cross-divisional opponents – one against a primary rival annually and one against a rotating opponent.
Each ACC school will play all of their rotating crossover opponents twice during the 12-year rotation, once at home and once on the road, but not consecutively. The divisions will rotate each year as the hosts for the cross-divisional games.
North Carolina and North Carolina State will be primary partners and play annually, rotating home venues. By virtue of being in the same division, the Coastal, UNC and Duke will also play annually. NC State and Duke, however, will play each other only twice in the next 12 years – a meeting in Durham this November and a game in Raleigh in the 2020 season.
Duke and Wake Forest will serve as primary partners. The Demon Deacons will play NC State annually but only matchup against the Tar Heels twice in the next decade – a game in Chapel Hill in 2015 and a game in Winston-Salem in 2022.
As for the newcomers, Louisville will serve as the primary partner for Virginia and Pitt and Syracuse will align themselves across conferences. Among the primary rivals in the old class, Clemson will pair up with Georgia Tech, Florida State and Miami will continue their in-state rivalry and Boston College will match-up with Virginia Tech annually.
