Decent first game for the Pack, Binghamton's pitcher did pretty well except for grooving one to Senay in the bottom of the 1st - about 400 feet later it was 2-0.
On to William & Mary tomorrow.

ESPN3 - finally got it to work. Slight quality issue, momentary freeze-ups now and again, but overall O.K. Carolina's game was on there as well. Do you know how to pull it up?

Ah, sorry. Last night was the first time I've been able to get it to work for one reason or another - probably operator stupidity.

Pack guts out another one, 1-0 CG for Carlos Rodon. Only issue I have is he hit more batters than William & Mary got hits - odd.
Elimination game early tomorrow between Ole Miss and William & Mary, winner gets State tomorrow night, State gets 2 to win 1. Get some rest tonight, guys.

Haven't been able to find anything yet - IF Oregon loses out in their regional at home, what effect would that have on State should State advance?

Haven't been able to find anything yet - IF Oregon loses out in their regional at home, what effect would that have on State should State advance? I just asked the same question on the WRAL site. Oregon is one of two #1 seeds facing possible elimination (Va Tech is the other). I think the answer is that the super regional would still be held in Oregon, but I'm not sure. Something tells me that a best of three series between State and Rice wouldn't be a big fan favorite in Eugene, OR.

Someone posted on WRAL that if Oregon loses and State wins, the Pack would host a super regional against Rice. Can't verify the accuracy of that statement, but it would be nice. Attendance-wise, a UNC - South Carolina series 30 miles away would probably draw people who are more baseball fans than Pack fans.

Really looking forward to State-Rice this weekend, hopefully common sense will prevail and they'll just push the games back to Saturday-Sunday-Monday (if necessary). Andrea don't wanna watch no baseball games.

HECK of a game, Rice is an excellent ballclub.
Great heart and fight from the Pack today, Rodon wasn't particularly sharp from the jump but gutted it out, great job of hanging in by the Pack.
2 to win 1 now.
Rest up, go get 'em.

WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn, Pack's gonna kill me doing this!
Way to hang in there, guys! Down 4-1 going to the 9th, playing as the road team, tie it up at 4, then gut out jam after jam after jam in extras, win it in 17!
Proud to be a member of Wolfpack Nation!
We ARE State.

Awesome game, indeed!
My personal favorite was the shutout the Gamecocks put on the Heels, though!

Does anyone know how the first round pairings are determined in the CWS? If they just continue the brackets from the start of the tourney, State would play the winner of the Carolina-USC series. But if that's UNC, wouldn't they play the lowest seeded team to make it to Omaha? That wouldn't be State, which was originally seeded higher than at least three teams who are in (UCLA, Louisville, Indiana) and one on the verge (Mississippi State).

I do believe it's "bracket-style", because they mentioned several times the winner of UNC-USC plays NC State the first round in Omaha.
That's because UNC is seeded #1 overall, so they were placed opposite #8 seed Oregon. In the Oregon "sub-bracket" (if you will), Oregon (as the '8') was matched up across from NC State (presumably, the highest rated "unseeded" team). Out of that 8-team "pod", NC State emerged. If it was the NCAA basketball tournament, NC State -vs- UNC/USC would just be the next step, I don't think they "re-seed" when they get to Omaha. I see your point Ken and, as usual, I think you're all over it.

Way to go Pack! Those were two crazy games this weekend. I woke up everyone in the house when they won last night! Very proud of our boys and lookin' forward to Omaha.
State will play UNC or USC. I saw the brackets last night and it's a lock for the Pack to play either a blue or maroon "Carolina".

While it seems counter-intuitive to say it's a good thing for State to have to face the #1 overall national seed in their tournament opener, I'm not sure who they'd rather face. Carolina earned that seed by starting the season a ridiculous 39-2. Since then, they've gone a relatively pedestrian 17-8, and both their hitting and pitching seem shaky lately. State, on the other hand, is on a 31-4 run of their own after a more modest start. And by drawing the Heels in the opener, State is assured they can go with their ace, Rodon.
I think it's more problematic for State that if they beat the Heels they are likely to face what I think is the best team in the field - LSU - in the winners' bracket. They may very well have to beat the Heels twice to advance out of their bracket.

I agree. LSU is going to be TOUGH for anyone. They're my pick to win it this year.

CLICHE ALERT
One at a time - that's all they can do. Just like in any other sport, win the play. Make the play that's there to be made, be smart, patiently aggressive, etc.

Looks like State will play UCLA and Carolina gets to square off against LSU. Good luck to both teams....GO PACK!
