UNC Offers McDaniel Premium Story
By Don Callahan Inside Carolina Posted Mar 4, 2012
During his most recent visit to North Carolina on Wednesday, Jalen McDaniel received his newest scholarship offer.
“The [UNC] coaches told my coach when we were at the [basketball] game on Wednesday night and then he told me,” McDaniel said. “Afterwards, I talked to Coach [Gunter] Brewer and Coach [Vic] Koenning. They said that I had the offer and wanted me to come back for spring ball.”
UNC joins Clemson, East Carolina, NC State, and Wake Forest in offering McDaniel, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver from Fayetteville (N.C.) Britt.
Wednesday’s visit to UNC for the final home basketball game of the season was McDaniel’s second to Chapel Hill. He previously attended the UNC-Duke basketball game a few weeks earlier.
McDaniel says he doesn’t have any favorite schools, but the two visits to UNC have improved its chances with him.
“I’m still wide open, but I like North Carolina,” McDaniel said. “I think it’s a great school. I like all the coaches – they’re very family-oriented. I love the offense that they’re going to run – it’s the offense that I play in, in high school.”
By the end of the summer, McDaniel figures to be verbally committed.
“I think I’m going to wait a little while longer just to see what happens,” McDaniel said. “I’ll probably decide in the early summer.”
Since the end of the football season, UNC is the only school McDaniel has been able to visit. He plans to attend a spring practice at Virginia Tech soon and is looking to visit Clemson and South Carolina shortly thereafter.
