Since Tom O'Brien is no longer the Head Coach, I offer my thoughts for what they may be worth:
1) REALLY would like to see Jon Tenuta stay - either as Head Coach, "Associate" Head Coach (whatever the hell that is), or, at least, Defensive Coordinator. I fancy a well-coached, aggressive, capable defense.
2) If Tenuta doesn't make it as HC, how about somebody like Kyle Whittingham at Utah? Since Urban Meyer left, Utah hasn't badly dropped off and it seems he did a good enough coaching job to get them invited over to the Pac-12 (or am I wrong)?
3) With all due respect to Coach O'Brien, and I think a LOT of respect is due him, if he's not coming back I'd like to see someone of the age that COULD be around for a long time and who could continue the progress this program has made. Thinking long-term .....
Many thanks to Coach O'Brien and his staff for their efforts the last 6 years.
Go Pack

I would like a coach with some fire in his gut. You know, the guy that gets rowdy on the sidelines. Like Clemson's coach! That guy gets pumped as much as the players and I think the players respond to that.
Either way, I'm excited about the future and I'm sure Yow will bring in a good one.
Best wishes to TOB. I'll always respect his ethics.

I knew TOB's days were numbered after the UNC game. His firing does not come as a surprise to me. I think State will pick up a good coach, but I agree it needs to be someone who is relatively young who can stick around for a while (if he's successful, of course). The Utah coach wouldn't be a bad pick-up, but I think they should really try to get someone who is well-known and can bring in big time recruits. Otherwise they will stay average. The ACC as a whole needs a huge Football overhaul. This past weekend proves that while Clemson and FSU can beat up on other ACC teams, when they play the big dawgs, they ain't shit!
Either way, good luck in the coaching search, I hope they get a good one!

Thanks, Tiznit.
Top-to-bottom, mediocre at BEST. South Carolina didn't even have their starting QB or RB and still walked Death Valley by 10. FSU, at HOME, rolled over for Florida. I never would have thought the damn conference a team played in would make such a difference but I guess it does.
"Perennial Top-25" would be nice, I just want to get to a point where 7-5 is not "average" and 8-4 is not "good". Do I think NC State "should" win 10 or more games every year? No, but I do think the pieces are in place where State can get to the point that 10 wins shouldn't be earth-shattering, either.
Whittingham was the first "young" coach I could think of and, I must admit, only came to mind because I saw him on TV Friday night while eating dinner before going to the State-UNCA basketball game (don't get me started). Tiz, you're right, I don't think kids this side of the Mississippi would have a freakin' clue who this guy is and, I have to admit, recruiting ability should be Priority 1 in this coaching search. Not that he's setting the world on fire, and I've heard the other kid's name more, but Keith Marshall at Georgia is proof positive that "we" (NC State, UNC, Duke, all local schools) have a ways to go yet. The kid played in high school not more than a 10-minute car ride to State's campus but went all the way to Athens, GA to go to college.
Now, given good fortune against Alabama, he's going to be on a team with a shot at a national title. MUST BUILD FENCE AROUND RALEIGH.
Thanks for the level discussion, Tiz. And, in keeping things fair and balanced, congratulations to Duke on a continued turnaround under Coach Cutcliffe. Duke is facing the same thing State's facing next season, namely the loss of a senior starter at QB along with much other experience, but the continuity under Cutcliffe will serve them well in the next few seasons.

Honestly, I would love to have Cutcliffe at State! I know that's not going to happen, but it would be nice. I have crazy respect for what he's done at Duke and I don't see that program doing anything but getting better under his leadership.
Are there any young coaches out there that are like Cutcliffe and looking for a job? Let's hope so.

I gotta say, although Duke...(by Duke football standards) had a pretty decent season (the first half anyway), but I really, really wanted them to have a winning season. I thought they let the Miami game slip away...they scored a ton of points this year, it's just their defense isn't quite up to speed, yet. When you score 45 points in football, you're supposed to win! They were a scoring machine most of the year. Great QB, great receivers in Vernon and Crowder...they should have won a few more games. I still am left a but disappointed in the football season, but I know it's not all going to happen at once. I see the turnaround and it is very exciting. With the upcoming upgrades to Wallace Wade and the way the coaching staff has the team rolling, I think recruits will be fairly easy to come by. Will they get the Heisman type of players? Probably not, but they have found a few diamonds in the rough so far and I don't expect that to stop anytime soon.
I love Cutcliffe for bringing some excitement to Duke on the football field. I only hope it continues for many more years. Anthony Boone is a solid QB stepping in at QB next year, I have no concerns about that position. Word is Cutcliffe has a couple more pretty good QBs coming in as well!~ Work on Defense and getting more speed on that side of the ball and I think Duke can be a good football team again.
As far as the coaching search at State, I hope it's not like the basketball coaching search went....they need to keep everything quiet until they have hired someone. Good luck on the search!

Well said Tizu. Hey, don't be too disappointed about the season when you're devils are going to a bowl! If nothing else, just think about this......October 20th, 33-30. Now c'mon, that's got to make you smile! I also hope Yow can keep the coaching search somewhat quiet. The internet is already flooded with rumors and speculation.
