Great job tonight against VT! Too many turnovers, but a W is a W. Good to see the boys win the last two and close out the season strong. 9-7 isn't great, but it's a much improved effort over the last few years. Let's see if they can carry the momentum into the tournament. Go Pack!

State's work isn't done yet, but they really needed that one last night, and they came through under pressure. That's what it's all about this time of year.
Congrats to the Pack! Looking forward to a semifinal against Carolina, to play the winner of FSU - Duke for the title. That's the way things are supposed to be, right?

Heck yeah! I have high hopes for the tournament, but either way, as long as there's two schools from NC battling it out, it's all good. Regardless of what many people say about how weak State and Wake have been, without the big 4, the ACC would be nothing. This state has the best fans, and the best programs.

Good, solid game by State today against BC - awesome start, held off for a while, staved off the comeback, and closed it out strong.
Rest up, go get some Cavalier tomorrow. Doesn't get any easier from here on.
Go Pack

Today is huge for the Pack. Lose, and your chances for the NCAA are lost, too. Win and you have a decent chance of dancing.
Go Pack!

As of now, the biggest Miami fans are dressed in Wolfpack red. If the Canes beat FSU, that could elevate the pack's two wins against Miami to wins against top 50 teams (to go along with the UVa win).

Heard on the radio coming home this afternoon that State went from 0 to 4 wins against the RPI Top 50 over the course of a few hours or so this afternoon (Miami - 2, Texas, and Virginia). Taking that to mean that, as of this morning, before they recalculated everybody's RPI for the 1000th time this week, Miami and Texas weren't in the RPI Top 50. Ho hum. "Just win, baby." - Al Davis

What really gets me about the RPI is that, as of this morning, there were 20 teams (on both sides of the bubble) whose RPI score was between .570 and .579. I defy anybody to tell me there is a statistically significant difference in any of these scores.

What really gets me about the RPI is that, as of this morning, there were 20 teams (on both sides of the bubble) whose RPI score was between .570 and .579. I defy anybody to tell me there is a statistically significant difference in any of these scores. Agreed. To me, the butt of the RPI joke is just this: RPI:Miami 48 NC State 59 Records (before conference tourney play):Miami 9-7, 19-11 NC State 9-7, 21-11 Head-to-head:NC State 2 Miami 0 Final Regular Season Conference Standing:NC State 5 Miami 6 Strength of Schedule:Miami 59 NC State 31 So then, to recap: NC State is rated similarly to Miami, they have identical conference records, they lost the same number of games, NC State played and won 2 more games, those 2 games may as well be considered to be the 2 head-to-head games NC State and Miami played against each other, by virtue of the head-to-head sweep for NC State they finished ahead of Miami in the final conference standings, and NC State played a much tougher schedule than Miami. As a "P.S.", check out espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bubblewatch: (Miami) " ... The Canes need to make a run in the ACC tournament, and that means taking down Florida State on Friday. That win would give them their second of the season over FSU, a tandem that would pair nicely with a marquee win at Duke. Anything short of that, and it will be hard to argue Miami's case. The RPI and nonconference SOS marks are mediocre at best, and this team is still just 3-10 against the RPI top 100. That's not good." (NC State) " ... Things are looking up, and not just because of Friday's win. Texas and Miami also managed to sneak into the RPI top 50 as of Friday morning, which means the Wolfpack -- who entered the weekend 0-8 against top-50 teams -- now have four such wins (including a sweep of Miami) to their credit. Sure, each of the four teams is in the 40s in the RPI, so it's not exactly a batch of marquee victories. But either way, this resume -- which now includes a 6-9 mark against the top 100 -- looks much less specious." Well, well, well - now, NC State has twice as many top-100 wins as Miami does, and one less loss, with two more games against top-100 teams. State hasn't set the world on fire this year, but they're better than Miami. Period.

The pack has done well for itself considering. The UVA game is the only value win of the seasona nd UVA is not ranked right now. Do pack fans want to just say they made the nCAA and lose 1st round or would they rather go NIT and maybe win a few rounds? Just thinking aloud. UNC kills them tomorrow, with or without Henson!

To answer your question, we want the NCAA. We're tired of going a few rounds in the "Not Inivited Tournament". First round loss or not, getting to the dance is on every State fan's mind. Tomorrow is going to be tough, but it is the ACC tournament, and crazy things happen in March. Go Pack!

Nice try, but no. We've seen plenty of LOL'ing lately about us accepting mediocrity (not blaming you, just saying), not falling into that trap. My only thought on the NCAA -vs- NIT issue is this: if State doesn't go to the NCAA tournament this season, I refuse to consider this season as a failure - that's all. Otherwise, yes I want State in the NCAA tournament, that's been the goal all along - from Robinson, through Sendek and Lowe, to now. It's just been too few and far between. Go Pack

So Hun are you proud of Calvin cursing a blue streak on national TV and Howell having to be restrained from attacking an ACC official? Sad.....but apparently it is common with the wolfpack under Gott.

So Hun are you proud of Calvin cursing a blue streak on national TV and Howell having to be restrained from attacking an ACC official? Sad.....but apparently it is common with the wolfpack under Gott. So heelz are you proud of non-partisan (not Pack Pride, State Fan Nation, etc.) national media reports of a referee dropping the F-bomb on State's coach about the charge/block/no-call at the end of the game? www.sportsgrid.com/ncaa-basketball/acc-ref-shut-up/So, if cameras just happen to catch it, I should renounce my "Statehood"? If cameras don't catch it, it didn't happen? UNC won the game, some of the calls/no-calls went against State, if State had made a couple of shots, made a couple of free throws, or not thrown the ball away a couple of times, who knows? No, I'm not proud of the "language" (is it "language" if you don't actually here it?), but I am proud of the effort and intensity that breeds the feelings - far sight better than not caring at all. Congratulations on winning a closely contested, hard-fought game. Hope Henson heals quickly. Go Pack

P.S.
How is it "common under Gott"? You're implying that Coach Mark Gottfried coaches and encourages bad behavior, and that bad behavior is all State has done this year. UNC won the game. Why not just be happy with that? I mean, it's not like Roy Williams has ever used a four-letter word on TV or anything. Nosireebob. Sure hasn't. Unh-unh. Nope. Never.
