Not that a preseason poll means anything, but the ACC coaches poll is predicting the Pack to finish at the top, CJ Leslie to be player of the year, and Rodney Purvis to be rookie of the year. I'll take all three! ;D

They 'should' win the ACC from what I've seen so far. I think their biggest competition for the title lies with Duke, though. Duke is LOADED as well this year. Never count out UNC...well...ok, we'll count them out ;D

Never count out UNC...well...ok, we'll count them out ;D It should be fun to have a real competition for the regular season title include all three teams. Carolina starts out with a slight disadvantage, since they have to play 4 games against the other two, while Duke and State play 3 each. I haven't looked at the schedule yet to see which of the other teams the Triangle schools play twice this season. Sometimes that imbalanced schedule really matters.

This is why I should always look it up before I say something stupid. With the change this year to an 18 game schedule, the three schools do play each other home and away. Each league school plays 7 opponents home and home, and 4 teams only once.
For State, their one and done opponents are Miami (#4 in coaches poll), Maryland (6), Virginia (7), and Va Tech (T10).
Carolina has Clemson (8), Wake (T10), Va Tech (T10) and BC (12).
Duke draws Florida State (5), Virginia (7), Georgia Tech (9), and BC (12).
So, although my assumptions were wrong, my conclusion that UNC has a slightly tougher conference sked doesn't change.

Hey fellas.....Don't count out my Heels just yet. They brought in some pretty solid recruits as well. Marcus Paige will be running the point from day one, and mark my words, JP Tokoto will be an above the rim impact player. This kid is from the Vince Carter mold and should be exciting to watch. McAdoo should have a huge year as well as the main focus of the Heels' offense.

Oh, don't worry. I never count the Heels out. However, I am excited at the prospect of recoring a few W's instead of L's against the boys in blue.

The Coaches' Poll had teams ranked preseason as:
1 NC State 2 Duke 3 UNC 4 Miami 5 Florida State 6 Maryland 7 Virginia 8 Clemson 9 Georgia Tech 10 Wake Forest 10 Virginia Tech 12 Boston College
Trusting that Ken is correct, schedules for the "top three" are as follows:
NC State's conference schedule includes 2 games against Duke, UNC, Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and Boston College; their single games are against Miami, Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.
Duke's conference schedule includes 2 games against NC State, UNC, Miami, Maryland, Clemson, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech; their single games are against Florida State, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Boston College.
UNC's conference schedule includes 2 games against NC State, Duke, Miami, Florida State, Maryland, Virginia, and Georgia Tech; their single games are against Clemson, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Boston College.
Using the preseason ranks as "weights":
NC State's ACC "Schedule Strength" is 125/18, or 6.94 Duke's ACC "Schedule Strength" is 117/18, or 6.5 UNC's ACC "Schedule Strength" is 108/18, or 6.0
"Slightly tougher", indeed. UNC has to play preseason-ranked #'s 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 twice each (they're ranked #3); playing Clemson just once is the only thing keeping their schedule from being as hard as it could possibly be. Numbers don't lie, still respect the programs at both Duke and UNC.
Of course, using this methodology, if it was truly a "balanced" round-robin schedule, then the preseason #12 (or whatever the lowest ranked team would be) would always have the hardest schedule.
Time for preseason yakkity-yak to end and the games to begin; Pack needs to start showing it on the court. Can't wait for this season to get going, should be a lot of fun.
Go Pack
