I know he didn't play college ball, but since he's a local boy, I figured it was worth a mention.
Josh Hamilton is lighting it up this season! I'm glad he was able to overcome his demons and become the player he was supposed to be. He's really been a joy to watch the past couple of years.

Seeing him on the field is a thing of beauty. Knowing all the personal battles he's had to deal with. Stay strong Josh and keep killing it!

He seems like a good guy. And, when he makes a mistake, he owns it such as his relapse during the offseason. Have to respect that.

Yep, he doesn't hide or deny his past or his mistakes. It's nice to see a pro athelete that doesn't make excuses, but decides to improve himself and work harder.

I think Ron Artest a.k.a Meta World Peace needs to take some lessons from ol' Josh. What a d-bag.

Ron Artest is a piece of sh!t. He has shown it time and time again. He should be barred from the NBA for life. There's no place in any sport for the type of things he's done.

I totally agree. He's the exact opposite of a roll model.

Local guy or not, I always like stories of people that have made mistakes but learned from them and become better people (not necessarily athletes) because of them. In keeping with the "Famous People We've All Heard Of" vein of this issue, can't help but think of someone like Robert Downey, Jr. as a similar example.' That being said, certainly proud of Josh and what he's been able to accomplish. Great man from a great family with a terrific wife and family of his own. He needs to continue to live life one day at a time, deep down he surely realizes there is no real pressure on him in his life except that within himself. Wishing him and the Rangers all the best (especially since it looks like the Red Sox are in the process of going belly up).

I watched the Rangers/Angels game the other night. Josh struck out 3 times in a row, then came back with a 2 RBI double and a single the next two at bats. Pretty darn good when a hitting slump only lasts half a game. Haha!

He really does seem to have a knack for reading pitches, though. It's like he knows what is coming before the ball is even released based upon how the pitcher plants his lead foot and the position of his hand...it's amazing to watch, really.
