No one really knows (aside from Dawkins and the coaching staff) what is going on here, but he's expected to red shirt his senior season. While he has been a great contributor to the team, he has been very inconsistent. I have been waiting for him to break out and be consistent in every game but unfortunately that hasn't happened.
I don't want to speculate as to what the issue is, but I'm sure it is something personal. We all remember his sister passed away in a vehicle accident on the way to see him play a couple of years ago...maybe he never really got over it. Who knows, it will come out in due time.

I have read on several boards that it is drug related and an arrest is pending. Not sure if that is true. Anyone have any other information on this. It would seem like the folks talking his sisters death was 2 years ago and that he would probably have overcome that personal issue. Also would seem too soon to announce anything related to next season if it were just something with that as well.

His father stated in an interview that he was dealing with personal issues and was having a hard time overcoming the death of his sister. He has classic PTSD symptoms and perhaps it's just now starting to hit him. From what I understand those rumors about drugs, etc. are not true and unfounded. He is still a member of the basketball team and is expected to red shirt his senior season.

This is what I can't stand about internet "boards" (still see more of it over at WRAL's forum).
If people aren't Duke fans and they're very cold and vindictive, all they write is what they "heard". Nobody "heard" anything close to the truth except for the statement released by Duke and the reports confirming he was still having difficulty dealing with the death of his sister as she was on her way to see him play in his first Duke game. On one hand, that was a few years ago. On the other, more important, hand, who is anybody else to tell Andre Dawkins how he should feel, or grieve, or "get over" his sister's death?
Personally, I don't feel I've ever "gotten over" any of my family members' deaths; I've learned to deal with them factually and philosophically as time as gone on, and maybe the pain subsides, but "getting over" family and friends dying means, to me, forgetting them. At the end of the day, Andre Dawkins is still a kid himself and just because he's a scholarship athlete on a major university's basketball team in our area that not all of us are fans of gives none of us the right to speak ill of this kid or his family.
I would hope we would all be mindful of that and more respectful of real, important, true life situations like this. Some people need to grow up.
Go Pack

It never ceases to amaze me how quick we are to assume something sinister, embarrassing, illegal or unethical as soon as a story comes out about someone associated with a "tribe" different than our own. Why can't we accept that we are being told what we need to know by people who are charged with the well being of our young people? Athletes don't forfeit every shred of their personal privacy just because we occasionally pay to see them perform for us. I'm with you guys, Marty & Tizu. What's going on with Dawkins is none of our business.

Apparently he is still having issues dealing with his sister's tragic death 3 years after the fact. I'm not sure how you ever "get over it" when it is that kind of deal. I watched my dad's health dwindle to the point that his death was pretty much a blessing and I still think about him all the time and tear up and it has been nearly 9 years since that happened. I hope Andre finds the comfort and strength he needs in this situation and that he is able to not only return to the basketball court but also to a somewhat normal life.

Best wishes to Andre and hopefully he can overcome the issues he's having right now and continue with his career. I totally agree with Tizu, Marty, Ken, and Kdub. I don't have any brothers or sisters, but I can imagine that the death of a sibling has to be very hard to deal with.
