A report came out Sunday from Michael McLawhorn stating Gbinije may transfer to Villanova or Georgetown. While this could open up and solidify Duke landing Amille Jefferson, I hope he does not transfer. He has been under utilized in my opinion and not given the opportunities to become what he can. I believe Coach K has done a disservice to a few players by not playing them often enough.
Who knows, they could be having lousy practices which is contributing to their lack of playing time. I hate to question Coach K as he is a legend in the sport it just seems they've missed out on a lot of recruits and had a few players leave due to transfer more often here recently. Hopefully I'm not reading into this too much. Either way Michael, we hope you stay as you are a valuable asset to the team...even more so next year.

That he has chosen to sit out a year at another school instead of fighting for playing time at Duke and getting a quality education tells me a couple of things. K and the staff have told Michael he is not in their long term plans and he might see the writing on the wall with future players and recruits. I believe if he could have added defensive pressure he would have played more. It was obvious Andre was lacking in his D and it hurts his PT. I really did not see much from the young man to really provide an educated opinion on his ability, but obviously the staff seems to think he is lacking due to his PT. Good luck to him. If his transfer makes Jefferson go to Duke, then I hope he stays! I want to see Amille in a red uniform!

Well, it's official - he's gone. Amille, that opens the door for you, buddy. Welcome to Duke!

I actually think you might see Jefferson in KY next year now that Mason and CJ are coming back.
I would rather Duke pass on the kid. It is pretty obvious he is looking for a place to get minutes and not really a program or coach that he wants to play for.
We do not need mercenaries.

I agree. And State doesn't, either. There are plenty of lesser programs that will make that bargain with a kid with some talent. But if that's really what's holding this kid up I doubt a coach is going to getting to commit to being an unselfish team player in the short time he will be in school.
If I were K or G, I'd be saying thanks, but no thanks.

Good point Ken. I haven't really thought about it that way. I guess since State has had such a good recruiting year, I was getting greedy, haha!

So, if Gbinije goes to Villanova or Georgetown he won't have an opportunity to receive a good education?
The kid isn't the first high level recruit to come into Duke and not play. K sticks to his main 7 or so regardless of the talent level of the rest of the guys on the bench in terms of who gets prime minutes. I would've thought that Gbinije would've played more this year given Duke's lack at the wing forward, but K chose to run three guards all year. It couldn't have been defensive deficiencies as this year's Duke team was one of the worst defensive Duke teams since K elevated the program to nationally relevant status year-in/year-out. Maybe his offensive game was limited? Tizu or one of the other Duke fans may be able to speak more on this.

I've even stated that it's about time for him to go and find a new coach with new ideas...what he's doing now isn't working. Everyone knows his game now. He's missing on recruits (well, big men anyway) unless they can shoot the 3. It seems as if he's not interested in a true big man and that to me is a huge mistake. When Duke was dominant, they've had a great mix of shooters and big men. It's got to go back to that instead of this one dimensional play. They also need some guys that can actually penetrate and do something instead of turning it over when they try (IE: Austin Rivers). Duke needs another Jay Williams / Kyrie Irving type player as well as a big man like Boozer or Brand. Otherwise, they will be out in the NCAA every year. The 2010 year was an exception. The difference there was Zoubek really turned it up at the end of his senior season. I'm hoping Mason Plumlee brings it all next year...they need him to be the big man he was touted to be. I haven't seen much of Marshall, but what I have seen hasn't impressed me so I think it's going to have to be Mason getting it done. I don't know what the magic formula is, but someone needs to give it to K otherwise the program is going to have a very steep decline starting the 2012-2013 season.

I'm beginning to wonder whether this is a question of K's decision making, or if it's a sign that Duke isn't on top of as many recruit's lists any more. At some point, opposing coaches have to be hinting that K will retire soon, and might do so abruptly (like Dean Smith did) to force Duke to hire one of his assistants rather than go "outside the family". If I were a big man and thought I was buying into Coach K, and instead wound up with Collins, I think I'd be pissed. K may not have much gray hair, but he has some mileage on him, and a history of fatigue. This must keep Duke's AD up nights.

I'm sure K's lack of gray has more to do with a bottle of dye than good genetics. ;D
