Observations to now:
1) Old adage "Cold is Fast" holds true - not much warmer in Daytona than it is here right now. Wild.
2) Hendrick Light showed up strong with Patrick, Stewart, and Newman all having good qualifying runs.
3) Congratulations to Danica Patrick and Jeff Gordon for comprising the very first all-female front row in NASCAR history.

LOL! Pretty funn there, Marty. I actually wouldn't mind seeing Danica do well. Good qualifying run, for sure.

Nothing against Danica at all - it's the bitch on the front row with her I don't care for.

Harvick's 2 for 2. Going for 3 on Sunday. Never bet against 3 on Sunday.

Nothing against you Marty, but I cannot STAND Harvick...I really hope he doesn't get the win.

No offense taken, Tiz. For me, it's not so much that it's "Harvick" it's that it's still the '3', as evidenced on the door post.

Best wishes for full and speedy recoveries to all the fans injured yesterday. Thankfully, it sounds like the critical cases have been upgraded, fantastic news. Get well soon to all!
Let's go green.

Okay race, last 10 laps sucked. No big stinky wrecks, no injuries, good day.
Hard to win when you get knocked out through no fault of your own.

The Saturday wreck was horrendous. I'm so glad everyone is doing better and recovering ok. That would be very scary.
The actual 500 wasn't too bad. It was a bit boring. No one really made any 'bold' moves that jumped out at me. I do like the new Gen 6 car...it did away with that 2 car tandem BS...that new Chevy SS looks pretty sweet!

I really like the new car. You can actually tell a Chevy from a Ford from a Toyota. Hated to see what happened with the wreck on Saturday, but hey, there's only so much safety they can build into the track without taking away from the experience of being there. Glad nobody was killed!
The 500 had some interesting moments, but overall, it wasn't a very exciting race. Good to see two Chevy's going 1-2 across the finish line! Can't beat those bowties! I think if Jr. would have had another 1/4 of a lap, he would have been in victory lane. He was coming like a freight train. I thought Danica did very well. I wouldn't be surprised if she scores a win this season.
I'm flying to Phoenix for some product training with my fellow John Deere reps from RW Moore this Sunday. Too bad we won't be there in time to go catch the race!

Agree with you and Tiz, Matt, on the change to the cars. More Identifiable and less a 43-car IROC field. That's good.
I'm not one to say anyone (well, O.K., almost anyone) deserves to be badly injured but if you go to ANY racetrack, never mind Daytona or Talladega, and you voluntarily BUY a ticket IN THE FIRST FEW ROWS CLOSEST TO THE FENCE, you MUST know there is a chance you could get hit with something. The threat is ALWAYS there, one time for each car on the track times the total number of laps. I've been to Rockingham before, sat on the frontstretch, about 20 rows up, and after 492 laps the entire left side of my face looked like a 3-day shadow - it was tire rubber. Chance you take. Period.
I saw Humpy Wheeler on a NASCAR Race Hub show (I think it was "Race Hub") on Speed Channel, and he says the disclaimer on the back of the ticket is basically worthless as far as saving track promoters from suits. Come to think of it, what if there was no catch fence. Are you still not assuming the risk as a fan if you still decide to sit in an "unprotected" seat? Personal accountability, people.
By the way, Matt - don't kid yourself. Junior was NEVER going to win Sunday, not as long as Johnson was in contention - team orders. Think about it: when did Craven, or Schrader, or anybody else after Tim Richmond ever do a damn thing in the 25 car? Only when first Gordon, THEN Labonte, had a problem. If 24, THEN 5, were running good, you almost never saw 25 doing anything but making laps. If you've never seen that, you haven't been paying attention. And if you don't see Junior being a "team player" now, you still ain't paying attention.
Patrick did great all day long, stayed out of trouble, led a few laps, and only was in a bad spot when she was pitting. All in all, felt she did a good job. To me, it's actually not as surprising when a "dark horse" runs well or even wins at Daytona or Talladega as it is any other race - something about those damn restrictor plates, I guess.
Travel safe to and from Phoenix, bro. Maybe you can find State-GT on cable somewhere. If not, enjoy a Sun Devils game! HAH!

Hey Marty, you have to remember that I don't remember much about Tim Richmond. I was still playing with Hotwheels cars when he was driving. LOL! I didn't get to see any ballgames while I was in Phoenix, but I did set the DVR to record the game last night and watched it when I got home. I will say this though. For an equipment junkie like me, that facility John Deere has outside of Phoenix is awesome! Big boy toys everywhere! Just imagine Toys-R-Us powered by diesel fuel. It was my first Spring Training with John Deere, and I hope I'll go to many more. Actually, the other reps told me that since ConExpo is next year, JD won't do a Spring Training and we'll go to that instead. ConExpo is in VEGAS! Hell yeah!

I haven't made it to Phoenix or Vegas yet, loved San Diego - smallest "big city" I know, great people, AWESOME Mexican food (go figure).

Yeah, but then there ain't no way in HELL what happened in Vegas would stay in Vegas. You KNOW she'd bust your chops any chance she got. You wouldn't even have had to have LOOKED at that redhead with the big, round - um ...... eyes, just be in the same freakin' ROOM!!!!! And was it really my fault - um ..... - I mean, WOULD it really be YOUR fault that the girl walked up and started talking to me? Um, dammit ..... you? What was I (shit, YOU) supposed to do, be rude? Women ..... Wait, what were we talking about again?
