On a roll, they actually look good this year on offense rather than seeming to want to "keep it close" and hope to get one point.
So far, so good on the additions of Jordan Staal and Alexander Semin, in my book. This team looks like they're really starting to gel and, with the short season, I think they're playing themselves into a great position as far as the playoffs go.
Great performance during this road trip.
Go Canes!

Awesome road trip. To come away with 4 wins is pretty amazing for this team. They really need to tighten up on the Power Play kills, and on some defense...but the offense has been fantastic. Really can't ask for anymore on that end.
Very excited the Canes are making a good run. They're at the top in the conference now, lets hope they can keep it going at home tomorrow night.

They gotta pick it back up again, they've hit {gulp} a lull. Is it the building? The colors? They sound like somebody else I know, I just can't quite put my finger on it .....

Let's hope so - AWESOME job against the Pens, albeit without facing Malkin who, in my opinion, has kicked the Canes' collective ass even worse than Crosby over the years. Nevertheless, as the Canes can attest, you gotta play 'em with who ya got and there ain't no damn asterisks when it comes to getting in the playoffs.
WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gimme a Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tremendous game against Florida last night! 6-2 - Wow.
Good on Faulk for taking care of business against Weiss. Don't follow the entire NHL, but John and Tripp were saying after the fight how good of a player Weiss is, that he's just lost his grandmother, and how the incident in the 2nd period (which I didn't see) and the final straw in the 3rd that precipitated the fight (which I did see) were bush league.
I'll never say anything negative when it comes to someone losing a family member, my sincere condolences to Mr. Weiss and his family on their loss. Maybe he came back too soon, if his actions last night were that much out of character?
Regardless, two fantastic dominant performances in a row for the Canes.
Ya'll gettin' this ol' boy excited for some playoff hockey, ya'll keep on. (Who's gonna translate that?)
By the way - any word at all on Ruutu? Is he shut down for the year (or worse)?
P.S. Condolences as well to the family of "Dancing Granny". Always enjoyed seeing her during breaks in the game. RIP, dear lady.

Another good job in the 2nd half of the back-to-back with Florida. Keep those two points-per-game coming!
Hope Ward isn't hurt too badly, but I feel better with Ellis as a "1A" than with Peters.

Agreed. We need Wardo! Hopefully he's not injured to the point of having to miss a lot of time.

Another good performance against the Devils on Saturday. Not sure if the Montreal game was fatigue, flat, or just Montreal being better. Oh well, can't win 'em all (not even Chicago). Man, have THOSE guys started off well. Go Canes!

Good win last night against the reeling Capitals. This Canes team is poised to make a run into the playoffs if we can stay healthy. Semin is +18 on the season, good enough for 3rd in the NHL and the SST line is just on fire, 77 points in 24 games this season. At the halfway mark, Canes looking solid and can hopefully stay healthy. Not just dumping the and chasing the zone anymore, guys are skating hard and constantly on the forecheck. Great to see young players like Nash, Wallace, Dwyer, etc. gaining more confidence with each game also.

Great points all, Devil (and welcome!). I've complained for the last several years, as a casual observer and fan, that it looked to me like the Hurricanes had to work so much harder than other teams just to get the puck in the offensive zone, never mind all of the passes that clanged off of sticks. Much, MUCH better this season, these guys are a joy to watch and pull for. Wins are great, that's what they're there for, but much like NC State I mainly want to see teamwork, effort, hustle, grit, and desire. Funny thing is, if those "little" things are handled properly and completely, the wins will take care of themselves. Devil, you seem to be a much bigger hockey fan than I am, I will definitely go to a few games when I get the chance and I try to watch every game I can on TV, but you seem to be a good candidate for our "Hockey Homey".

Last I checked, the Canes were #4 in the Eastern standings. Three way tie in points, but the Canes have a game or two in hand over the others.
Special teams need work, but I'm struck by the fact the Canes seem to have a lot of new faces killing penalties, and this is a part of the game where teamwork is most important. Hope by the end of the regular season these guys will all be on the same page. If this team had an effective penalty kill, combined with this year's much more explosive offense, they would be a Cup contender. But we still have a ways to go to catch up with Montreal and Boston IMO. On a par with the Pens.

Yep - I think they do O.K. in a single-game situation against Boston, would be worried in a series. Montreal sure seems to have the Canes' number so far this season. Looking good to get in the playoffs, though.
Go Canes
