Out goes Maryland, in comes Louisville.
What are your thoughts on this move? I think it was the best of the 3 options that were on the table for the Big East, personally. We shall see how it goes!

All around, Louisville is the best pick - by a wide margin, in my opinion. Their football program would certainly appear to be an upgrade over Maryland's, and in basketball there appears to be an even wider disparity between the two right now.
Not knocking Maryland, and not saying NC State is a world-beater in either sport, but for the ACC as a "whole" Louisville is a nice addition. If we were going to lose Maryland, this is a damn good replacement.

Couldn't agree more Marty. I'm pleased with the new member. Now, if we could only pick up a couple more that are good in the two major sports, we'd be really talking.

I'm not sure the universe of available schools good at both major sports contains two teams. Cincinnati seems the only school even close.

Louisville is a good choice. I agree with Ken. There's not a lot of schools out there with big time programs in both football and basketball, and Cincy would be a good addition as well.

Back to the topic at hand, though. Cincinatti is wanting in the league very, very badly. They practically created a campaign for why they should be chosen over Louisville and UConn...I think academics may have played a role in that decision as well. The ACC wants to be known as the conference with good athletics but great academics....the SEC it will never be....which I honestly can say, I'm glad it won't.

Wouldn't Cincinnati/UConn/Fill-In-The-Blank U take us to 16 for B-Ball, and 15 full-time for F-Ball w/ Notre Dame docketed for 5 of 12 every year?

Well, there's 11 full members now that Maryland is gone. Louisville is coming to get back to 12. Syracuse and Pitt are coming......14. So with Cincinnati and UConn, that'll be 16. So I guess Notre Dame will be the "almost" 17th.

With Notre Dame being in the league for basketball, do you want to have 17 teams in that sport? I think it would make more sense for the 16th school be for football only. Navy, anyone?

I agree w/ Ken on this one. You wouldn't want 17 basketball schools...the scheduling of that would be bizarre. I have no problem adding Navy. I welcome them, actually!

Navy? Interesting choice, but hell, why not.

At least Navy would fit the "Coast" part of ACC.

At least Navy would fit the "Coast" part of ACC. True! Las time I checked, Kentucky doesn't have a beach.
